Over the years, paving tiles have become an increasingly popular element of decorating pedestrian and park areas, alleys, squares, embankments and landscape elements in private plots.
But natural conditions, the internal composition of the soil on which the tile will be laid, and external loads can negatively affect the aesthetic appearance and life of the tile.
To prevent these effects, geotextile fabric is used when laying tiles.

Fibertex geotextile with a density of 120-150 g/m2 stabilizes the top layer of the soil, prevents the accumulation of moisture on the surface, the germination of weeds through the joints between tiles, the subsidence of individual tiles under loads, etc.
For maximum efficiency, geotextiles must be laid in two layers: the first - on the prepared soil, the second - on a layer of crushed stone or other drainage material to separate it from the sand on which the tiles will be laid.
Also, as a more budget option, it is possible to use needle-punched geotextile with a density of 200 g/m2, but it should be understood that the service life of such a structure will be somewhat reduced.
If the place of operation of the tile involves the passage of freight transport, then the geotextile should be chosen with a density of 250-300 g/m2 in order to prevent premature destruction of the base and reduce the service life of the entire coating.
The use of geotextiles when laying tiles makes it possible to reduce the amount of bulk material, for example, from 150 to 100 mm, which minimizes the costs of the overall project.
HOW TO LAY GEOTEXTILE UNDER THE PAVEMENT TILE?
- Remove the top layer of soil, approximately 30-35 cm
- Level the base and compact it thoroughly (if it's a sand base, make sure there's enough moisture in it for this layer to compact well).
- Line the geotextile fabric, flatten it so that no folds form.
- Pour a layer of wet coarse sand (at least 5 cm) on top of the geotextile, which will no longer be compacted.
- Lay the tile and install the curb to prevent the tile from shifting in the future.
- Fill the joints between the tiles with a dry mixture and sweep away its excess.
